  • Need help with proof marks and other markings - Stuttgart rifle

    Hello,

I recently acquired a rifle with the following markings - can you help to decipher them?

    Hello

The immediate below is from the IAA-Forum. Thanks to WBD over there.

Developed by RWS of Nurnberg in the years 1938 and 1939, the 6,5 x 68 came on the market in the spring of 1940. Some sources designate the companies August Sch?ler or the company Krieghoff as a developer, others; the companies of Vom-Hofe or Mannlicher. This information is all wrong. Rather the 6,5 x 68 was a parallel development of the 8 x 68S and appeared at the same time.
    (translated from Wiederladen.)

From here on it is me.

Sonderstahl may be something along the lines of special alloy steel, but that is just a guess on my part.

    141 - date of proof, January 1941.

8742 (and 42, part of) I assume is the serial number.

I always thought it was a pick axe and a trough, but apparently I have been in the wrong.

There has been some discussion about when the new proof law was put into effect. Some say January 1, 1940, some say January 4, 1940 and others say January 15, 1940. Let us settle for Janaury 1940.

Interesting marking after "R7L". And, of course, the mysterious "K"-mark again. Thank you for posting, I can now add another rifle with that mark to my thread on the "K"-mark.
